Improving intraoperative evoked potentials at short latency by a novel neuro-stimulation technology with delayed return discharge

چکیده

• The delayed discharge stimulation technology generated pulse artifacts with a tail <10 ms. signal-to-noise ratio of the evoked response was improved. method may increase number patients for whom intraoperative monitoring aid in cranial neurosurgery. nerve function records responses at latencies few milliseconds. Unfortunately, these be masked by electrical artifact pulse. In stimulation, return significantly contributes to width artifact. We have pulses an ISIS Neurostimulator (inomed Medizintechnik GmbH) providing novel reduction technique. It delays stimulating beyond latency expected physiological response. This is controlled such that no unintended evoked. 21 neurosurgical interventions motor potentials facial (FNMEP), reduced duration. Compared conventional immediate discharge, improve method. some surgeries, only clearly identifiable signals. extends toolbox modalities rendering interpretation more reliable. technique enhances

Reliability of Motor Evoked Potentials Induced by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: The Effects of Initial Motor Evoked Potentials Removal

Introduction: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a useful tool for assessment of corticospinal excitability (CSE) changes in both healthy individuals and patients with brain disorders. The usefulness of TMS-elicited motor evoked potentials (MEPs) for the assessment of CSE in a clinical context depends on their intra-and inter-session reliability. This study aimed to evaluate if removal ...

Short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials in dystrophia myotonica.

Somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) were recorded in a group of 21 patients with dystrophia myotonica and in a group of controls. Those with dystrophia myotonica had longer absolute peak latencies due to slower peripheral conduction. SEP abnormalities revealed peripheral and/or central conduction delays in 33% of the dystrophia myotonica subjects. There was no apparent relationship between t...

Short latency vestibular evoked potentials in the chicken embryo.

Electrophysiological responses to pulsed linear acceleration stimuli were recorded in chicken embryos incubated for 19 or 20 days (E19/E20). Responses occurred within the first 16 ms following the stimulus onset. The evoked potentials disappeared following bilateral labyrinthectomy, but persisted following cochlear destruction alone, thus demonstrating that the responses were vestibular. Approx...

Short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials in degenerative and vascular dementia.

Short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) were recorded from 54 patients with dementia as compared to 32 age-matched controls. SEPs were generally normal in patients with senile dementia of Alzheimer type, while patients with multi-infarct dementia showed a prolonged central conduction time, an increased latency of both N13 and N20 and a reduction of the primary cortical response amp...

Cortical modulation of short-latency TMS-evoked potentials

Transcranial magnetic stimulation-electroencephalogram (TMS-EEG) co-registration offers the opportunity to test reactivity of brain areas across distinct conditions through TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs). Several TEPs have been described, their functional meaning being largely unknown. In particular, short-latency potentials peaking at 5 (P5) and 8 (N8) ms after the TMS pulse have been recently d...
